Secondly, The Johnny Burke Foundation will provide a yearly, financial, one time grant, to a youth in the country music field who meets the requirements set forth by our board of directors and voted upon, as such.
Lastly, The Johnny Burke Foundation is committed to the sponsorship, in the amount of $1,000.00 annually, to the Rogersville Country Festival, Rogersville, New Brunswick to facilitate the hiring of acts
A couple of years ago, friends, Shane and Greg Verner approached me with the concept of starting a foundation in my husband's name, Johnny Burke. I gave the idea long consideration and obviously decided to go ahead with the plan. We shared ideas but ultimately the choice was mine on how the money would be allocated as long as all our board members were in agreement.
To date, we have 5 voting board members: Steve Maillet (N.B.), Cheryle Carr (N.B.), Stan Campbell (Quebec), Greg and Shane Verner (ON) one vote, and myself, Teresa Burke (Brighton ON).
Johnny has a history of mentoring youth both back home in the Maritimes and in Ontario. Therefore, we are implementing, in the coming year, a grant which will be awarded to a youth in the country music field. Also, near and dear to his heart, was The Rogersville Country Festival, back home in his hometown in New Brunswick. It seems only fitting to support a festival that Johnny felt a part of, for many reasons. Our foundation has pledged an annual grant in his name. Lastly, through learning of the enormity of the human trafficking situation through Paul Brandt's organization, we feel any remaining funds raised each year will be donated to #notinmycity. Please check out that website for valuable information on this subject. In coming years, our focus may expand. Exciting times ahead. We are starting out small but are dreaming big!
